You're not alone
How many reverse mortgages are closing near you?
If you're 62 or older (55 or older for some loans) and wondering whether a reverse mortgage could help you, you're not alone. Type your city or ZIP to see how many FHA-insured reverse mortgages (HECMs) closed around it, from HUD's own records. Then let's talk about what it means for you.
You don't have to figure it out alone
Behind those numbers are real homeowners near you, 62 and older, some of them refinancing a reverse mortgage they already had. Their choice doesn't make it right for you.
If you're 55 to 61, some private reverse mortgages, such as HomeSafe and HomeSafe Second, start at 55 in California. They aren't in HUD's counts, but they may still be an option for you.
Most people start with the same questions:
- Will I still own my home?
- What will it cost?
- What happens to my family?
That's what I'm here for. I'll answer your questions in plain English, give you honest answers on both sides, and help you decide whether it fits before your independent HUD-approved counseling, with your family at the table if you'd like. If it isn't right for you, I'll tell you, and point you to what might work better.

How to read the numbers
Plain facts about where they come from, so you know exactly what you're looking at.
What the numbers don't tell you
A busy area doesn't mean a reverse mortgage is right for you. Your age, your equity, what you still owe, and whether you can keep up with property taxes, insurance, HOA dues and upkeep matter far more than what your neighbors did.
